Global Market News Summary — 26 October 2026
  • The Nasdaq Composite closed Friday 0.21% lower, its second straight weekly loss. This followed Thursday’s session, in which the index lost 2.6%, its worst day since June, over doubts about how the AI buildout will be funded. SpaceX, Tesla and Meta beat earnings estimates, but investors focused on AI revenue and spending; Meta raised the low end of its capex plans by $5 billion. US futures edged higher on Monday, with the Fed policy meeting due this week.
  • The DAX fell 190 points, or 0.75%, on Friday, led lower by MTU Aero Engines, Deutsche Telekom and Siemens Energy. The index touched its lowest since October 9 amid rising oil prices and concerns over demonstrations scheduled in France and Italy. German private-sector growth eased in October, and BASF was reported to have raised its offer for Evonik.
  • The Nikkei 225 closed 0.78% lower on Monday at a new one-month low, its third straight decline, as selling in semiconductor and AI-related shares continued while energy companies gained on higher oil prices. Advantest fell 3.9% and Tokyo Electron lost 3.7%; the Bank of Japan is due to announce its rate decision later this week.
  • Gold hovered near three-month lows around $4,030 on Friday, down about 3% for the week, as rising oil prices fuelled expectations of higher-for-longer US rates. Spot gold traded at about $4,010 an ounce early Monday.
  • Brent futures rose 3.1% on Friday to settle at $112.42, its highest since June 2022. On Monday, Brent fell $2.21 to $109,2 amid hopes of easing US-Iran hostilities, as Qatari mediators arrived in Tehran, though persistent attacks on Saudi Arabia kept investors cautious. Trump said on Sunday the US would not strike Iran that day.
